Former Pakistan prime minister Imran Khan was on Thursday (3) injured in his leg in a firing during his ‘real freedom rally’ in Wazirabad near Gujranwala in Punjab province. One person was killed in the shootings. The unidentified gunman has been arrested after he was tackled by Khan’s supporters.

Khan’s party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) called it an assassination attempt.

PTI leader Imran Ismail said that Khan, 70, was shot in the leg “three to four” times.

Chaotic scenes were witnessed after the shots were fired near Khan’s convoy, several local channels reported. The former prime minister was quickly moved to a vehicle and rushed to the hospital. Videos on social media showed his bandaged leg.

In an interview, PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry said while Khan was shot in his leg, three other leaders were also injured.

Senior party leader Faisal Javed Khan, one of those who got injured in the incident, said Khan was out of danger.

Farrukh Habib, a senior PTI member, tweeted, “The cowards have shown their times Imran Khan is injured, may Allah protect him, the whole nation should pray for the life of Imran Khan.”

Khan was leading an anti-government long march towards the national capital Islamabad from Lahore where it started last week.
