DURING a joint press conference with US president Joe Biden at the White House, Indian prime minister Narendra Modi expressed his belief that India and the United States, as the two largest democracies in the world, have the potential to contribute significantly to global peace, stability, and prosperity. He emphasised that there are no limits to the partnership between the two nations, stating, “even the sky is not the limit.”

The Indian leader highlighted the importance of people-to-people ties as a crucial pillar of the India-US relationship, noting that over four million people of Indian origin are actively contributing to the US’s development.

“For the partnership between India and the US, even the sky is not the limit. The most important pillar of our relations is our people-to-people ties. More than 40 lakh (four million) people of Indian origin are contributing to the development of America,” Modi said.

He underscored that India and the US, as the world’s two largest democracies, have the capacity to make substantial contributions to global peace, stability, and prosperity based on shared values.

“I’m sure that on the basis of these values, we can fulfil the aspirations of the world,” he added.

Modi emphasised the joint efforts of India and the US in combating terrorism and radicalism, stating that both nations are standing shoulder-to-shoulder in this fight. He also mentioned that during his discussions with Biden, both sides agreed on the necessity of concerted action to put an end to cross-border terrorism.

Peace and security in the Indo-Pacific region were identified as shared priorities by the PM, who emphasised that the development and success of the region are of significance to the entire world.

Modi further announced that India and the US, as trusted partners, have decided to collaborate on establishing a reliable, secure, and resilient global supply chain and value chain, particularly in the face of global uncertainties.

Earlier, Biden expressed his belief that India and the US should work and lead together, considering the challenges and opportunities that the world currently faces.

The joint press conference highlighted the shared commitment of India and the US to collaborate on various fronts, including counterterrorism, regional security, and economic cooperation. The statements from both leaders reiterated the importance of the India-US partnership in shaping a better future for their countries and the world as a whole.
