India will meet Australia in a World Cup final after 2003 when Ricky Ponting’s team defeated Sourav Ganguly’s men by 125 runs.

THE Indian cricket team on Thursday (16) reached Ahmedabad in the western Indian state of Gujarat ahead of the much-awaited final of ICC Men’s World Cup 2023 on Sunday (19). The players received a warm welcome after reaching the city. Fans were waiting on the roadside to greet their heroes with Indian flags as the team bus reached the hotel.
The Men in Blue, who have remained unbeaten in the tournament, defeated New Zealand in the semi-final by 70 runs at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Wednesday (15) and will take on five-time champions Australia in the title clash at Narendra Modi Stadium, the largest cricket stadium in the world.
India reached the final of the 50-over World Cup after 12 years and will meet Australia in a final of the marquee tournament after 20 years. They won the title in 2011 defeating Sri Lanka in the final in Mumbai under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

India’s semi-final outing was special as their star batter Virat Kohli bettered the legendary Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 49 one-day international hundreds by scoring the 50th. Shreyas Iyer also scored a hundred, his second consecutive in the tournament, while Mohammed Shami claimed seven wickets to go to the top of the table with 23 scalps in just six matches.
Australia defeated South Africa in a low-scoring semifinal at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Thursday.
