His team secured a thumping win over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) tournament at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Thursday (11) but for Rajasthan Royals (RR) gloveman and England’s white-ball captain Jos Buttler, it was a forgettable outing at the iconic venue.
Buttler, who opened the innings with Yashasvi Jaiswal who belted an unbeaten 98 off just 47 balls to help Rajasthan register a nine-wicket win, fell without scoring and was found guilty of breaching the IPL code of conduct.
According to a statement from IPL, the dashing batter was fined 10 per cent of his match fee. While it was not immediately clear as to why he was penalised, the decision is likely to have come in the wake of his reaction following his run out in the second over of the Rajasthan innings.
Buttler, who slammed 95 in the previous game against Sunrisers Hyderabad but failed to end up on the winning side, got dismissed following a mix-up with Jaiswal, who went on to hit the fastest fifty in the history of IPL.
Buttler’s was the only wicket that Rajasthan lost in their pursuit of 150 runs to win which they did comfortably with almost seven overs to spare. Sanju Samson, the captain of the chasing team who also keeps for it, remained not out on 48 off 29 balls to give Jaiswal a perfect company.
“Mr. Buttler admitted to the Level 1 Offence under Article 2.2 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” the IPL release read.
