MALAYALAM actress Divya Prabha has broken her silence over the leaked nude scenes from her film “All We Imagine As Light”.

Addressing the controversy in an interview with Onmanorama, she said, “It is really pathetic. However, I had anticipated such a response from a section of the people in Kerala even when I signed up for the role.”

The film, directed by Payal Kapadia, explores the lives of three women working at a Mumbai hospital.

Divya plays Anu, a young Malayali nurse. The movie touches on themes of loneliness, resilience, and human connection.

Despite the critical acclaim, including winning the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival, the controversy surrounding its frontal nudity scene has drawn significant attention.

Prabha criticised the mindset of those who shared the leaked video clips, stating, “Those who shared the leaked videos comprise 10 per cent of the population, and I don’t understand their mindset.”

She also defended her role, adding, “Some people criticised me, saying that I did the nude scene for fame. I have won several awards and have also been part of critically acclaimed movies. I don’t think I need to strip naked to earn fame.”

The nude scene had been approved by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) without any cuts or changes to the dialogue. “Malayalis were also part of the Central Board, which gave us the approval,” she pointed out, emphasizing her commitment to the project and her conviction about the character.

The film stars Kani Kusruti, Chhaya Kadam, and Divya Prabha, with its storyline focusing on the bonds and struggles of women navigating life in a bustling city.

It holds the distinction of being the first Indian film since 1994 to compete in the main competition at Cannes.
