PUNJABI singer Diljit Dosanjh, during his performance in Indore on Sunday, addressed the issue of ticket black marketing that has marred his “Dil-Luminati India Tour 2024.”

The singer stated that while artistes are often blamed for the practice, they are not responsible.

“For a while, it has been going against me that Diljit’s concert tickets are being sold in the black market. But it’s not my fault that tickets are being sold that way, isn’t that so? If you are getting the ticket for Rs 10 and you sell it for Rs 100, what’s the fault of the artiste?” Diljit said in a video shared on Instagram.

The controversy has grown since the tour began in Delhi on October 26. Organisers said that the concert has sold 250,000 tickets, making it India’s highest-grossing tour. However, high demand has led to ticket resales at inflated prices.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is investigating alleged black marketing of tickets, not just for Diljit’s shows but also for Coldplay’s concerts in India. Earlier, the ED had conducted raids to probe financial irregularities linked to the issue.

Diljit pointed out that black marketing of tickets is not a new problem, saying, “This is not something new. Black marketing of tickets has been going on since time immemorial. Earlier it was cinema… Only the avenues have changed.”

The singer also used the opportunity to highlight the growing prominence of Indian artistes, saying, “Now it’s happening with Indian artistes. This is what you call vocal for local.”

He extended his best wishes to fellow performers Karan Aujla and AP Dhillon, acknowledging the challenges faced by independent musicians.

The tour will conclude on December 29 in Guwahati, with Chandigarh as the next stop on December 14.
