In an incident that would shock the author of even the most brutal crime story, a man has been held for reportedly killing his lover and chopping her body into 35 pieces that he took to scatter across the city.

The ghastly incident has happened in New Delhi.

It took the law-keepers five months to catch hold of the accused since the barbaric act was committed.

According to India Today, police identified the man as Aftab Amin Poonawalla. He had reportedly been in a live-in relationship with the victim, Shraddha Walkar, who was 26-year-old. During interrogation, Poonawalla said that his partner had been pressuring him to marry him and that led to frequent quarrels.

It was learned that after the duo had a fight on May 18, Poonawalla strangled Shraddha. He then dismembered her body with a sharp weapon and bought a fridge to store the pieces. Over the next 16 days, he used to go out in the middle of the night to throw the pieces away at various locations around the city.

On November 8, Shraddha’s father Vikas Madan Walkar filed a first information report at Delhi’s Mehrauli police station for his daughter’s kidnap in which he said that while his family lives in Palghar in the western state of Maharashtra, Shraddha resided in Mumbai where she worked at a call centre. She reportedly met Poonawalla.

The duo started a relationship and moved to Delhi despite objections from Shraddha’s family.

They rented a flat in the Chhatarpur area of Delhi.

Vikas said he hadn’t heard from Shraddha after May this year nor could he contact her.

The police then started a probe and it was revealed that Shraddha was killed five months ago. They subsequently caught Poonawalla from the flat. After his confession, the cops launched a search for Shraddha’s body parts in a forested area in Delhi. A few bones have reportedly been found.

Probe into the case was underway.
