“As per initial reports, four people entered a house where Gogamedi was present and opened fire at him. One of Gogamedi’s security personnel and another person were injured in the firing,” Rajasthan director general of police Umesh Mishra told PTI.
A member of another gang claimed responsibility for the killing, reports said. Rohit Godara Kapurisr, who has a background steeped in crime, wrote in a Facebook post that Gogamedi was helping their enemies and that prompted the fatal attack. India Weekly could not independently verify the post’s authenticity.

The murder also took place just days after the results of the elections in Rajasthan came out. Prime minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party returned to power in the state defeating ruling Indian National Congress.
While Congress parliamentarian Pramod Tiwari said the incident proved that criminals in the state were encouraged by the fact that the BJP was coming back to power, federal minister Gajendra Singh Sekhawat expressed shock over Gogamedi’s murder and said he had spoken to the police commissioner and asked him to arrest the culprits at the earliest. He also said making Rajasthan a crime-free state will be among the top priorities of the new government.
Gogamedi was a member of Lokendra Singh Kalvi’s Shri Rajput Karni Sena that had staged protests against Bollywood filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Padmaavat’ (earlier Padmavati) but later formed his own Karni Sena, following a dispute, in 2015.
He stole the limelight following the protests against ‘Padmaavat’ and the encounter of gangster Anandpal in 2017.
It is an organisation in Rajasthan created by the state’s Rajput community. It was formed by Godamedi following his differences with Lokendra Singh Kalvi, founder of Shree Rajput Karni Sena. It is not a political party but yet has massive influence in the state, particularly during elections.
The Karni Sena outfits take their name from Karni Mata, considered an incarnation of the goddess Hinglaj Mata, who is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, whose temple is in Balochistan in India’s neighbour Pakistan.
