INDIAN weightlifter Lovepreet Singh on Thursday (16) won silver medal in the men’s 109-kilogram category at the ongoing Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships 2021 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
Singh lifted a total of 348 kilograms (161 plus 187) and finished 12th in the World Weightlifting Championships, which was held concurrently in the Uzbek capital until Friday (17).
Being a Commonwealth nation, India is competing in both.
The Indian camp had more good news in store as Anuradha Pavunraj bagged bronze in women’s 87-kilogram category at the Commonwealth championships with a combined effort of 195 kilograms (90 plus 105).

So far, India have clinched 14 medals at the Commonwealth championships, including three golds. However, Indian weightlifters, have won only one medal – a silver – at the world championships.
