COLPLAY is gearing up for its much-anticipated concerts in India, with lead singer Chris Martin and partner Dakota Johnson spotted at Mumbai’s airport.
The band is set to perform as part of their ‘Music of the Spheres World Tour’ in Mumbai and Ahmedabad in January 2025, but the event has already sparked attention from child protection authorities.
The band is scheduled to perform at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on January 18, 19, and 21, 2025, followed by a fourth concert at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium on January 25. These concerts are expected to be the biggest draw of 2025.
However, the District Child Protection Unit in Ahmedabad has issued a directive to Chris Martin and the concert organisers, instructing them not to involve children on stage during the concerts.
The notice also mandates that children attending the concert be provided with earplugs or hearing protection to prevent health risks associated with sound levels exceeding 120 decibels.
The notice was issued after a complaint by Pandit Rao Dharnevar, Assistant Professor of Sociology at Chandigarh University.
Speaking to ANI, Dharnevar emphasised the dangers of exposing children to loud noises and bright lights at concerts, which can impact both their physical health and mental development. He also highlighted his commitment to taking further steps to protect children’s rights in the future.
Authorities in Thane have similarly directed Coldplay’s organisers to ensure that no children take part in the performances in Navi Mumbai, and that they wear hearing protection during the events.
