A mob clad in sanitary workers’ uniform barged into the house of ‘Savukku’ Shankar and ransacked it

THE TAMIL NADU police will probe the incident of a group barging into the house of popular Chennai-based Youtuber and a vocal critic of the ruling DMK party, ‘Savukku’ Shankar, and pouring sewage.
The DGP’s office has said the petition filed at Kilpauk Police Station has been transferred to CBCID wing for further inquiry.
On Monday (24), ‘Savukku’ Shankar’s residence in Chennai was targeted by a group of persons who allegedly dumped “sewage and human faeces” inside the house.
His mother Kamala was alone at the house and around 20 people, clad in sanitary workers’ uniform, barged in and ransacked the house.
The attack seems to be in retaliation to Shankar’s allegation that a Congress party politician had received kickbacks in the scheme to distribute vehicles fitted with jet-routing machines to 230 Dalit entrepreneurs for sewage clearance-related tasks.
Shankar told ANI on Tuesday (25) that Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president K. Selvaperunthagai had organised this attack.
He pointed out that though the scheme was meant for people living below the poverty line, around 130 beneficiaries were from above the poverty line.
Shankar claimed that after he broke this scam in December last year, the Chennai City police registered an FIR and tried to frame him, “After they failed in their effort to book me for exposing this scam, they adopted this method,” he said.
The attack has evoked widespread criticism, including from ruling DMK’s ally, the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK).
AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami, BJP Tamil Nadu president K Annamalai, VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan, MDMK chief Vaiko, and actor-politician Vijay-led Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam general secretary N Anand strongly condemned the incident and sought tough action against the perpetrators.
