ANANYA PANDAY, known for her roles in “Student of the Year 2” and “Dream Girl 2,” discussed her upcoming OTT series “Call Me Bae” at a trailer launch event on Tuesday.

The series, which marks her first long-format project, is inspired by iconic women-led comedies like “Clueless” and “Aisha,” films she admired growing up.

Panday plays Bae aka Bella Chowdhary, a character whose life takes a sharp turn from riches to rags. The series follows her journey from a privileged upbringing in New Delhi to a more challenging life in Mumbai, where she becomes a journalist.

The actor described the show as a mix of various beloved genres and characters, including Kareena Kapoor Khan’s Poo from “Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham…,” while maintaining that Bae is a distinct and original character.

At the event, Panday reflected on the challenges and rewards of working on a series versus a film. “It’s the first time that I’m doing a long-format series, and the advantage of that is that you get to go into every character,” she said, adding that the collaborative efforts of the crew and creative team were pivotal in bringing her role to life.

The series, directed by Collin D’Cunha and created by Ishita Moitra, also includes a scene that references a well-known interview moment between Panday and her “Gehraiyaan” co-star Siddhant Chaturvedi, which became a viral sensation.

Speaking about this, Panday stated, “I really struggled answering this question and honestly, I am done with that.”

Produced by Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, and Somen Mishra, “Call Me Bae,” features a cast that includes Vir Das, Gurfateh Pirzada, and Mini Mathur.

It will premiere on Prime Video on September 6, with availability in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada.
