THE Buckingham Palace on Wednesday (1) shared a new portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, taken by Kent-based photographer Ranald Mackechnie on the occasion of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
The picture shows Her Majesty in the Victoria vestibule within the private apartments of the Windsor Castle, which is believed to be her favourite residence due to several happy years she spent there in her childhood days.

The 96-year-old queen wears a blue dress and matching coat by her long-term dresser Angela Kelly in the image. She is also sporting a pearl and diamante trim. The castle’s famous quadrangle is visible in the background with the Round Tower rising above it.

This is not the first time that Mackechnie has photographed Her Majesty. On two occasions earlier, too, he took her images alongside the Prince of Wales, the Duke of Cambridge, and Prince George.
While the first batch of portraits was released to coincide with Her Majesty’s 90th birthday in 2016, the second were unveiled in 2020 to mark the start of a new decade.
Along with the image, the Queen also delivered a message thanking those who honoured her 70-year-reign.
“Thank you to everyone who has been involved in convening communities, families, neighbours and friends to mark my Platinum Jubilee, in the United Kingdom and across the Commonwealth. I know that many happy memories will be created at these festive occasions. I continue to be inspired by the goodwill shown to me, and hope that the coming days will provide an opportunity to reflect on all that has been achieved during the last 70 years, as we look to the future with confidence and enthusiasm,” she said.
