In a disturbing incident, a British woman was allegedly raped at a hotel in Delhi’s Mahipalpur area after befriending a man on Instagram. The shocking incident took place on March 11, 2025, and has led to the arrest of two individuals.

The victim, who had traveled from Goa to Delhi, reported the crime to the police the following morning. The authorities have confirmed the arrest of the two suspects, identified as Kailash, the main accused, and Wasim, who is charged with molesting the woman.

According to the police, the victim, a British national, had been on a holiday in India, initially visiting Maharashtra and Goa. During her travels, she came in contact with Kailash, a man from East Delhi, through Instagram. Over the course of a month and a half, they exchanged frequent messages on social media, eventually leading to her plans to meet him in Delhi. Kailash, who works at a private firm, suggested she visit Delhi instead of him traveling to meet her, and the woman agreed. She arrived in the capital city on March 11 and checked into a hotel in Mahipalpur.

Once in Delhi, the woman contacted Kailash, who arrived at the hotel along with his friend Wasim. The woman alleges that Kailash initially molested her in the hotel lift, and later, after taking her to a hotel room, he raped her. The woman, visibly distressed, left the hotel the following morning and immediately approached the Vasant Kunj police station to file a complaint.

The police have taken swift action, arresting Kailash on charges of rape and Wasim for molestation. Both have been taken into custody, and further investigation is underway. Authorities have informed the British High Commission about the incident, and they are offering assistance to the victim during the legal process.

In an additional revelation, it was reported that Kailash struggled to communicate with the victim in English, relying on Google Translate to bridge the language gap. This detail adds another layer of complexity to the situation, highlighting the difficulties faced by foreign nationals during such traumatic experiences in a foreign country.

The British High Commission has acknowledged the incident and assured support to the victim. The police are continuing their investigation into the case, which has sparked outrage on social media, with many people voicing concerns over the safety of foreign tourists in India.

This case is part of a larger pattern of increasing concerns regarding the safety of women, particularly foreign tourists, in India. While efforts have been made to address sexual violence and harassment, incidents like these underline the importance of continued vigilance and reforms in the law enforcement system to ensure justice for victims.
