Former India cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni might not be from the southern state of Tamil Nadu but the cricketer, who leads Chennai Super Kings (CSK) franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL) T20 tournament, has no dearth of fans and followers across all ages.
Dhoni, who will turn 42 this July, did not have the start of his liking in this year’s edition with his team winning only two of the four games it has played so far, losing its latest game against Rajasthan Royals in Chennai by just three runs on Wednesday (12).
But that the fans love Dhoni not only for his cricketing prowess but humbleness was evident after the game once again. The cricketer went to meet a superfan — an 88-year-old woman who is also the mother-in-law of state-based politician from India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Khushbu Sundar.
She is the wife of Sundar C., a film director, actor and producer.
Elated by Dhoni’s gesture, Sundar, who is also a film personality and member of India’s National Commission for Women, posted pictures of the meeting between Dhoni and his mother-in-law and thanking the cricketer and the franchise, said, “Heroes are not made, they are born. Dhoni proves that. I am at loss for words for our CSK #Thala @msdhoni at his warmth & hospitality. He met my ma in law, who at 88, hero worships Dhoni & cannot see beyond him. Mahi, you have added many years of good health & happiness to her life. My pranaams to you for this. My gratitude to @ChennaiIPL for making this possible. CSK kku whistle podu!!”

She also posted a picture of herself with Dhoni, calling it “definitely an icing on the cake” in the caption.

In IPL 2023, Dhoni has registered only 58 runs in four matches and will be eyeing to add more runs to this tally. He, however, made history in the last match against Rajasthan by captaining Chennai for the 200th time in the IPL. He has been leading the side since 2008, when the tournament kicked off.
CSK next face Royal Challengers Bangalore, featuring another star Indian batter Virat Kohli, on Monday (17), and both sides will be aiming to grab the game.
