Some of the world’s wealthiest businessmen from the US recently saw massive loss of wealth as per the Bloomberg Billionaire Index but Mukesh Ambni and Gautam Adani, two Indians in the list, witnessed the opposite.
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos lost a whopping $9.8 billion (£8.4 billion) in a day while Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, saw his wealth plummet by $8.35 billion (£7.2 billion). But Ambani, chairman of Reliance Industries, and Adani, the chairman of the Adani Group, were the only two billionaires in the top 10 to not lose any wealth. As per the index, Ambani gained $1.23 billion (£1.06 billion) while Adani, the world’s third richest at the moment, gained $1.58 billion (£1.36 billion).
Other billionaires in the list, such as Warren Buffet, Bill Gates, Larry Page, Bernard Arnault, and Sergey Brin also saw losses in wealth.
According to a Bloomberg report in July, Bezos lost $63 billion (£54.4 billion) while Musk became poorer by almost $62 billion (£53.5 billion) in the first half of 2022. The planet’s top 500 wealthy people lost $1.4 trillion (£1.2 trillion) in the first half of the current year.
The US consumer price index increased by 0.1 per cent from July with no change in the previous month. Prices went up by 8.3 per cent from a year ago which is a slight deceleration but still more than the median estimate of just over eight per cent, it was reported.
