BENGALURU city has been rocked by yet another ‘suitcase murder‘ case.

A 32-year-old woman was found murdered, and the body was stuffed inside a suitcase at her apartment in a Bengaluru suburb.

The victim was identified as Gauri Khedekar, hailing from Maharashtra, and the body bore severe injury marks, police said.

Her husband Rakesh Rajendra Khedekar fled to Pune after the crime where he allegedly attempted suicide by consuming poison.

He has been detained in connection with the murder and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Pune, police said.

The incident came to light after the house owner alerted the police control room on Thursday (27) evening.

During a press conference in Bengaluru on Friday, city police commissioner B Dayananda said the police have registered a case in this regard, and her husband is the main suspect.

“He (husband) was found admitted in a hospital in Pune. Apparently, it is said that he had consumed poison in a suicide attempt. He is in the hospital and our team has already contacted Pune police,” he said.

According to him, a team of Bengaluru police have gone to Pune and as and when he is discharged from the hospital, he will be brought to Bengaluru for interrogation.

Marital dispute is said to be the reason behind the murder.

“Relatives of the deceased have come to Bengaluru, and further details will be sought from them,” he added.

Rakesh was working as project manager for Hitachi Systems India and had moved to Bengaluru last month. He was working remotely and the couple had rented a flat at Doddakammanahalli village, said Sarah Fatima, deputy commissioner of police.

Gauri, a mass communication graduate, had recently quit her job in Pune to join Rakesh in Bengaluru. She was looking for a job in the city.

Her body was found dumped in a suitcase inside the bathroom of the flat. There were stab injuries on her body, the police officer said.

“The accused was detained in Pune and will be brought to Bengaluru. The exact motive behind the murder will be ascertained after he is interrogated,” she added.

Responding to reports that the accused had informed his wife’s parents about killing her, the officer said, “The matter is under investigation and these details need to be verified.”

Forensic experts visited the spot and collected samples, police said.

Rakesh reportedly told police that a fight broke out between the two on Wednesday night, and he slapped her.

Gauri threw a kitchen knife at him, and he suffered a minor injury. In retaliation, Rakesh stabbed her multiple times, Times of India reports, quoting a senior police officer.

The next morning, he stuffed the body in a suitcase, and by noon, he left for Pune.

He later called the house owner to inform him about the incident, who in turn alerted the police. (Agencies)
