BEN AFFLECK’S crime thriller “Animals” has been revived, with the actor now taking on the lead role.
Originally, Affleck had planned to direct the film alone, with Matt Damon set to star. The project was initially set up at Netflix but faced delays due to rights issues, which led to both Affleck moving on to “The Accountant” sequel and Damon joining Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey”.
Now, Affleck is set to direct and star in the project, which will be produced by Netflix in collaboration with Affleck and Damon’s production company, Artists Equity. The film will also feature British actress Gillian Anderson, with production slated to begin in April.
The script, written by Connor McIntyre and Billy Ray, centres on a mayoral candidate and his wife whose son is kidnapped.
The official logline states: “Surrounded by plenty of enemies, political and otherwise, the husband and wife have no choice but to get their hands dirty in order to save their son.”
Dani Bernfeld of Artists Equity, along with Brad Weston and Collin Creighton of MakeReady, will produce the film.
Affleck and Damon, who collaborated on “Good Will Hunting” in 1997, will also appear together in the crime thriller “RIP”, due to release on Netflix later this year.
