THE POLICE in Maharashtra’s Thane district arrested Bangladeshi adult film actor Riya Arvinda Barde last week for staying illegally in India using fake documents.
Riya was picked up from Ulhasnagar, an extended Mumbai suburb, following a tip-off. The police have charged Riya with cheating and forgery, along with the Foreigners Act.
The police investigation began a year ago after it was found that the place of birth mentioned was different in the actor’s birth certificate, school certificate and passport.
She not only forged her documents but helped one of her accomplices obtain fake education certificates and a passport.
Eight other Bangladesh nationals have been arrested recently in Maharashtra for staying illegally in India.
Riya was illegally residing in India with her mother Anjali Barde, alias Ruby Sheikh, her brother and sister.
Anjali married Amravati resident Arvind Barde, by claiming she was a West Bengal resident, to continue their stay in the country.
She later got an Indian passport by producing fake documents and helped her children use forged documents to hide their Bangladeshi identity.
The police said that Riya Barde’s parents currently reside in Qatar, and they are also on the lookout for Riya’s brother Aravinda, alias Riyaz Sheikh and sister Ritu, alias Moni Sheikh.
Riya is also known as Arohi Barde and Banna Sheikh, according to Times of India.
The police claim Riya has acted in porn movies and was associated with a production house run by Raj Kundra, Shilpa Shetty’s husband.
Kundra was arrested in 2021 for his alleged involvement in the creation and distribution of porn films.
