HIGHLIGHTING the leadership of prime minister Narendra Modi, Indian defence minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday (16) said in the past, India’s words were not taken seriously at international fora but today, the whole world pays careful attention when it speaks.
Speaking during a three-day visit to his parliamentary constituency in Lucknow in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, Singh pointed out the warm receptions received by Modi during his visits to other countries, citing examples such as being called “boss” by the prime minister of Australia and being recognised as a globally powerful figure by the president of the United States, who expressed a desire to obtain his autograph.
“The prime minister of Australia calls him (Modi) Boss. The President of America tells Modiji ‘you are globally powerful’, and expresses desire to take his autograph. Muslim countries are also giving him the highest respect. The Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea extended his hand to touch the feet. It is an honour…for every Indian,” Singh said, PTI reported citing a statement issued by the local unit of Singh’s Bharatiya Janata Party.
Singh also highlighted the respect given by Muslim countries and mentioned a recent instance where the prime minister of Papua New Guinea extended his hand to touch Modi’s feet, considering it an honour for every Indian.
Speaking about the fast growth of the Indian economy, Singh noted that India has risen from being the 11th largest economy in 2013-2014 to now holding the fifth position.
In addition, Singh announced the plans to manufacture BrahMos missiles in Lucknow, with engineers from India and abroad working together. He said that the initiative would generate employment opportunities for the local population and necessitate the construction of special railway tracks to transport the missiles.
