Escentual.com, an Asian-owned beauty retailer, has reported robust performance during the fourth quarter of 2023, with sales surging by 21 per cent from October to December. The achievement is noteworthy amidst the current economic challenges as the UK slipped into recession this week.

The impressive results of the Cardiff-based online premium retailer, were largely driven by a significant increase in fragrance sales, up by 32 per cent, and a notable rise of 46 per cent in makeup sales. Additionally, there were substantial gains in skincare, rising by 27 per cent, and men’s grooming products saw a surge of 30 per cent. Notably, the last quarter of 2023 also surpassed the pre-pandemic levels.

Rakesh Aggarwal, founder and CEO of Escentual.com, said, “The double-digit uplift in sales was driven by a particularly strong year for fragrance sales and the significant bounce back of makeup. The growth wasn’t just a spike for Christmas; it has been building for some time.

“It resulted from Escentual’s ongoing commitment to providing our customers with a curated selection of premium beauty products and a focus on value-added content. We are thrilled to see such positive responses and repeat purchases from our valued customers and remain dedicated to offering the best customer service in online beauty.”

Escentual.com is the largest privately owned beauty retailer in the UK, boasting a growth of 30 per cent since 2020, achieving a turnover of £30 million last year.

Aggarwal initiated the business in 2000 from his parents’ garage and it currently offers a diverse inventory of over 12,000 premium beauty products and sustains a workforce of 93 employees.

Rakesh’s father Raj Aggarwal, who is the honorary consul for India in Wales, assumes the role of chairman in the family-run enterprise.
