INDIA skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bowl against Bangladesh in an Asia Cup Super Four match at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on Friday (15). India have already made the final with wins over arch-rivals Pakistan and Sri Lanka and will meet the Lankans, who defeated Pakistan in a thriller on Thursday (14), in the final.
The Tigers lost some early wickets and were placed at 49 for 3 after 11 overs. Their position could have been worse had India not dropped two catches in an over off Shardul Thakur.
India made wholesale changes to their playing XI for the match of academic interest, resting Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, Mohammed Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav.
Tilak Varma was handed his one-day international (ODI) debut while Mohammed Shami, Prasidh Krishna, Shardul Thakur and Suryakumar Yadav were also drafted in for their clash.
Middle order batter Shreyas Iyer missed India’s third consecutive game with the BCCI saying he “has shown improvement but is not yet fully fit.”
For Bangladesh who crashed out of the tournament with two losses against Pakistan and Sri Lanka, Tanzib Shakib was handed his ODI debut.
