He might not be among runs for a while but that doesn’t stop the headlines from chasing him. Ace India batter Virat Kohli is set to make a comeback to the national side after missing a couple of international series in the West Indies and Zimbabwe and when he takes his stance in the blue against Pakistan in the upcoming Asia Cup on Sunday (28), the man would complete yet another historic milestone.
Kohli, 33, will play his 100th T20 international on the day and what better ambience it could have been? He will also be only the second cricketer to play 100 games across all formats in international cricket. In 2020, New Zealand’s Ross Taylor became the first player on the planet to set the record.
The former India captain, who has not scored an international hundred for more than 1,000 days now, has scored 3,308 runs in 99 T20 internationals at an average of 50.12 and strike rate of 137 plus with 30 fifties. His last T20 international outing came in England in July.
Kohli’s fans are eager to see him hitting form again and with an average of 60-plus in Asia Cup, they are hopeful that the golden touch that the man once had would be back in the big game at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday.
Kohli is most likely to bat at No.3 in the match with captain Rohit Sharma and vice captain KL Rahul as probable openers.
He also needs only seven more sixes to complete 100 in T20 internationals. Only Rohit Sharma has hit more among the Indian batters. He also needs 374 runs to become the first Indian batter to complete 11,000 runs in T20 internationals.
