While there were not many cases of violent expressions of disappointment after Pakistan lost to arch-rivals India in a group match in Asia Cup in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates on Sunday (28), there were people who managed to connect the defeat to politics.

One social media user took to Twitter to say that Imran Khan, a former Pakistan cricket captain and the country’s only World Cup-winning one, was the prime minister when Pakistan hammered India by 10 wickets. It happened the last time the two Asian giants met in the T20 World Cup in Dubai last October. India scored 151 and the men in green easily overhauled it without losing any wicket.

Khan lost his premiership in April this year following a no-confidence motion and was replaced by Shehbaz Sharif, the brother of his immediate predecessor Nawaz Sharif. The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) supremo has been holding strong protests ever since against the current government which he often mocks as an imported one which surrenders before foreign pressure.

Former Pakistan minister and PTI leader Chaudhry Fawad Hussain also blamed the Sharif-led government for his country’s loss against India in the cricket clash.

Taking to Twitter, the former information and broadcasting minister of Pakistan called the Sharif-led government ‘manhoos‘ (evil).

“It’s not the team’s fault, the imported government is the bad luck”, he said in a tweet.
