While the UK has found itself sinking more in political and economic crises, an old video of Trevor Noah, a South African comedian and talk-show host, has surfaced in which he suggests India “colonise Britain”.
Needless to say, the video was receiving traction at a time when Britain, who had colonised India for nearly two centuries, was witnessing a new low in its political and economic lives.
On Wednesday (19), the embattled prime minister, Liz Truss, saw herself being plunged into deeper turmoil after home secretary Suella Braverman quit. In her resignation letter, the Indian-origin leader blasted the Truss government over its handling of the current economic crisis.
It has been reported that millions in Britain are skipping meals amid the ongoing cost-of-living crisis.
In this situation, the old clipping from Noah’s popular ‘The Daily Show’ showed him suggesting that in order to put things under control in Britain, one of “their old countries” should colonise it.

“At this point, things in Britain are so bad, I think one of their old countries should just colonise them,” Noah says. “Look at these savages they don’t know what they are doing.”
“Someone should just come in and bring stability. India should come to England and be like, ‘Look, look, look, we hate to do this but you guys don’t know how to govern yourselves’,” Noah said in the video. “We have to fix this entire thing.”
In the video which was originally aired in the later half of 2019, the anchor was talking about Brexit and the UK’s attempts to leave the European Union.
Three years since the video came out, the UK was struggling with challenges on both the political and economic fronts.
Truss recently replaced her finance minister and was also booed by parliamentarians but hit back at them saying she was not a quitter.
