ARJUN KAPOOR is hoping that his role as the antagonist in “Singham Again” will help revitalize his career.
The actor portrays Danger Lanka, a modern-day version of Raavan, in the latest addition to Rohit Shetty’s popular action-drama franchise.
This is the third film in the “Singham” series, following the success of “Singham” (2011) and “Singham Returns” (2014), which starred Ajay Devgn.
Kapoor’s character faces off against Devgn’s iconic cop, Bajirao Singham, and joins a cast that includes Deepika Padukone, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Tiger Shroff, and others.
“I’m happy people are liking my work… Now is the new starting point. The rebirth or the redemption, whatever you want to call it, I think it starts now,” Kapoor said in an interview with PTI.
Kapoor has been in the industry for over a decade, making his debut in 2012 with “Ishaqzaade.”
His latest role is one he considers a fresh challenge. “I was looking at a challenge and an opportunity to prove and push myself and grab my chance in a competitive environment… I thought this was the right opportunity,” he explained.
The actor admitted to always being a fan of Shetty’s work, including hits like “Golmaal” and “Singham.”
Kapoor was thrilled when approached for the role, noting that Shetty took a chance on him. “He trusted me and he took that chance and I hope I repaid his faith. I loved working on the film,” Kapoor said.
Kapoor’s portrayal of Danger Lanka marks a shift from the kinds of roles he typically plays.
While he’s done everything from the antagonist in “Ek Villain Returns” to a variety of other characters in films like “Gunday” and “Aurangzeb,” he said that “Singham Again” gave him the chance to “go all out.”
“I knew it’s a blockbuster, a big-budget bonanza that people come to watch. If you have to go all the way there, you choose a film like this,” Kapoor noted.
He added that he did not think of his character as a direct interpretation of Raavan, but instead focused on bringing the character of Danger Lanka to life. “It is a delicious place to be at, you can do what you feel like. I did what I felt like, and that was the most exciting part of the film as an actor to do,” he said.
Kapoor has reflected on the importance of making better choices in his career, especially after a period of struggle from 2018 onwards.
“The last couple of years from 2018-2019… things didn’t really hit the spot,” he admitted. Despite the setbacks, he believes that “Singham Again” can serve as a turning point for his future.
The film has performed well at the box office, earning over ₹1.6 billion in its first week.
Kapoor credits the success to the collective effort of everyone involved in the film.
“I did it for my own selfish reasons of being in a good film and making a reconnect with the audience. If they left with me, and they liked the film, I’m happy with that,” he added. (PTI)
