ACTOR Ananya Panday has emerged as a leading figure in telling stories rooted in modern technology, starring in recent projects like “CTRL,” “Call Me Bae,” and “Kho Gaye Hum Kahan.”

The timing of these projects, each of which explores the influence of digital life, appears connected but Panday maintains this wasn’t a deliberate choice.

“It is the time that we’re living in. It is the generation that we’re living in where technology is such a big part of all of our lives,” she said in an interview.

In Vikramaditya Motwane’s “CTRL,” Panday plays Nella, a social media influencer whose life is disrupted when she uses an AI to erase her ex from her online presence.

Panday acknowledged that working on “CTRL” made her more aware of digital security but admitted, “I know it, but I’m still doing it,” when asked about her continued use of certain online behaviours.

Panday also discussed her relationship with social media, saying it should not be taken “too seriously” and that it plays a significant part in her public and private life.

“Now I’ve been promoting, so I’ve been posting a lot… but I think I’m going to be taking that much needed digital detox because it does affect your mental health,” she said.

Despite having faced social media trolling and mixed reactions to her earlier projects, Panday is grateful for her journey.

She called her role in Shakun Batra’s “Gehraiyaan” a turning point, describing how it opened opportunities like “CTRL.” “The opportunities I’m getting now are a lot more fruitful and satisfying as an actor,” she added.

Looking ahead, Panday expressed a desire to explore different genres, including romantic films, horror, and biopics, and to collaborate with notable directors such as Zoya Akhtar, Karan Johar, and Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
