INDIAN actor Amitabh Bachchan has reportedly purchased a plot in Ayodhya, the holy town in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh where a grand temple dedicated to Hindu god Ram will be inaugurated on January 22. He said he has plans to build his home in the “global spiritual capital”.
According to a report, The House of Abhinandan Lodha (HoABL), a developer in the Indian financial capital of Mumbai, did not divulge details of the size and value of the plot. However, industry sources suggest it measures around 10,000 square feet and costs Rs 14.5 crore (£1.37 million), Hindustan Times reported.
The plot is located in the luxury Sarayu Project (after the local river Sarayu), which is spread over 51 acres and will be formally inaugurated on January 22. Prime minister Narendra Modi will take part in the consecration ceremony of the temple.
According to the developer, the project is located about 15 minutes from the temple and half an hour from the airport in Ayodhya, which was inaugurated by Modi last month. The project is expected to be completed by March 2028 and will feature a five-star hotel.
“I am looking forward to embark on this journey with The House of Abhinandan Lodha for The Sarayu in Ayodhya, a city that holds a special place in my heart. The timeless spirituality and cultural richness of Ayodhya have forged an emotional connection that transcends geographical boundaries,” Bachchan, the 81-year-old superstar who hails from Uttar Pradesh, said at an event. His birthplace Prayagraj (formerly Allahabad), is four-hours drive from Ayodhya.
“This is a start of a heartfelt journey into the soul of Ayodhya, where tradition and modernity seamlessly co-exist, creating an emotional tapestry that resonates with me deeply. I am looking forward to building my home in the global spiritual capital,” the Hindustan Times report quoted the veteran as saying.
Abhinandan Lodha, chairman of HoABL, said Bachchan was the “first citizen” of The Sarayu and his investment will help make the project into a “symbol of Ayodhya’s global spiritual significance”.
