“PUSHPA 2: THE RULE,” starring Allu Arjun, has shattered records with a worldwide gross of ₹6.21 billion (£57.41m) in just three days, according to Mythri Movie Makers.
Released globally on December 5, the film opened with a staggering ₹2.94 billion (£27.18m), breaking the previous record for the highest opening day in Indian cinema held by SS Rajamouli’s “RRR.”
The sequel to 2021’s “Pushpa: The Rise” continued its momentum, crossing ₹5 billion (£46.23m) on Saturday, making it the fastest Indian film to achieve this milestone.
Mythri Movie Makers shared on social media: “The box office is witnessing history with #Pushpa2TheRule. The wildfire blockbuster collects a gross of 6.21 billion worldwide in just 3 days, shattering many records (sic).”
The Hindi version alone contributed ₹2.05 billion (£18.95m) in its first three days, with day one collections of ₹720 million (£6.66 m) surpassing Shah Rukh Khan’s “Jawan.” It also set a record for the highest single-day collection in Hindi.
Allu Arjun returns as Pushpa Raj in this installment, alongside Rashmika Mandanna and Fahadh Faasil. The original “Pushpa” film, which earned over ₹3 billion has helped build a strong fan base beyond its Telugu-speaking audience.
Big B’s praise
Meanwhile, Amitabh Bachchan acknowledged Arjun’s admiration for him, shared during a recent event.
“So humbled by your gracious words… my prayers and wishes for your continued success!” Bachchan tweeted, further highlighting the cross-generational respect among cinema icons.
