INDIAN filmmaker Payal Kapadia’s “All We Imagine as Light”, a Golden Globe contender, has been nominated for the 2025 BAFTA Awards in the “Film Not in the English Language” category.
The Cannes Film Festival 2024 Grand Prix winner, which explores urban migration and dislocation, will compete against Emilia Perez (Mexico), Ainda Estou Aqui (Portugal), Kneecap (Ireland), and The Seed of the Sacred Fig (Iran).
London-based Sandhya Suri has also received a BAFTA nomination for “Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer” for her police thriller “Santosh”.
Fellow nominees in this category include British Indian filmmakers Dev Patel (Monkey Man) and Karan Kandhari (Sister Midnight).
David Tennant will host the awards ceremony on February 16 at the Royal Festival Hall, where Conclave, a papal thriller, leads the pack with 12 nominations, including Best Film and Best Actor for Ralph Fiennes. The Spanish-language musical Emilia Perez follows closely with 11 nominations.
“The film industry has delivered in spades once again. We look forward to acknowledging this amazing body of work,” said Jane Millichip, CEO of BAFTA.
Anna Higgs, Chair of the BAFTA Film Committee, highlighted the prominence of new talent, with 14 first-time nominees across 24 performance categories.
