AT THE 82nd Golden Globe Awards, “All We Imagine As Light” failed to secure wins in its two nominated categories.
Directed by Payal Kapadia, the film lost the Best Non-English Motion Picture award to France’s “Emilia Perez” and the Best Director title to Brady Corbet for “The Brutalist”.
The film, about two Malayali nurses and their cook friend navigating life in Mumbai, was up against notable contenders like “The Girl With the Needle” (Poland), “I’m Still Here” (Brazil), “The Seed of the Sacred Fig” (Germany), and “Vermiglio” (Italy) in the Best Motion Picture Non-English Language category.
In the Best Director category, Kapadia faced established filmmakers such as Jacques Audiard (Emilia Perez), Sean Baker (Anora), Edward Berger (Conclave), and Coralie Fargeat (The Substance).
Corbet’s “The Brutalist”, which won the category, portrays a couple rebuilding their lives in post-war America, while Emilia Perez, France’s Oscar entry, tells the story of a cartel leader who fakes her death to embrace her true self.
Despite the Golden Globe setback, “All We Imagine As Light” has earned multiple accolades, including the Grand Prix at Cannes and awards from the New York Film Critics Circle and Gotham Awards. The movie is also part of the longlist for the BAFTAs and is nominated for the Critics Choice Awards on January 12.
Produced by Petit Chaos, Chalk & Cheese, and Another Birth, the Malayalam-Hindi film stars Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha, and Chhaya Kadam.
The Golden Globe Awards were streamed live in India on Lionsgate Play.
