VETERAN Telugu actor Mohan Babu has been named in a police complaint alleging that he had a property dispute with late actor Soundarya, who died in a plane crash in 2004, and was also responsible for her death.
The complaint, filed by Chittimalli of Khammam district, has accused Babu of pressuring Soundarya and her brother Amarnath to sell him six acres of land and a guesthouse in Jalapally near Shamshabad.
The complainant alleged that Soundarya had refused to part with the property and this had resulted in a bitter showdown between the two actors.
Chittimalli after Soundarya’s death, Babu forcefully took over the possession of her land. The complaiant alleged that his life was in danger and requested police protection and wanted the government to take control over the property.
The police have so far not filed a first information report (FIR).
Mohan Babu has not responded to the allegations yet.
Sowmya Sathyanarayana, popularly known as Soundarya, hailed from Karnataka and gained fame for her roles in Telugu films.
She also acted in some Tamil and Kannada films, apart from the 1999 Amitabh Bachchan-starrer Sooryavansham in Hindi.
On April 17, 2004, Soundarya and her brother Amarnath, died when a single-engine Cessna 180, in which they were travelling, crashed shortly after taking off from the Jakkur airstrip near Bengaluru in Karnataka.
Soundarya had recently joined the BJP and was on her way to Karimnagar in Andhra Pradesh to campaign for the party.
A year before her death she got married to Raghu, a software engineer, and was pregnant at the time of the crash.
