India on Tuesday (2) dethroned Australia to become the No.1 team in men’s Tests, ending the latter’s reign at the top after 15 months.
The Asian side also reached the top rank a month ahead of the World Test Championship final at The Oval (June 7-11) in England where it will face the same team it pipped.

The annual rankings released by the International Cricket Council (ICC) reflected all series completed since May 2020.It gave 50 per cent weightage to the series prior to May 2020 and full weightage to the subsequent ones.
India currently have 121 rating, five more than Australia who they beat 2-1 in a four-match Test series at home earlier this year. India though played 25 matches as against Australia’s 23.
Prior to the annual rankings update, Australia were at the top with 122 rating while India trailed them by three points.
England were placed at No.3 with just two rating points differentiating them from Australia. South Africa were at No.4 with 104 rating while current world Test champions New Zealand were at No.5 with 100. Pakistan, Sri Lanka, West Indies, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe were the remaining ones.
India are also ranked No.1 in the T20s with 267 rating followed by reigning world champions England.
