As buzz builds around Shah Rukh Khan’s next big action drama, King — the project that marks Suhana Khan’s theatrical film debut — the question on everyone’s mind has been, who is cast alongside the father-daughter duo?
Amid online speculation, two names were thrown into the spotlight: Deepika Padukone and Sonam Bajwa. While the internet has been rife with theories and fan casting, here’s the real deal: Deepika Padukone is part of the film, but not in the role you think.
Earlier reports suggested Deepika would play Suhana’s mother in a brief yet significant cameo. However, sources close to the project now confirm that while Deepika Padukone is indeed in the film, she’s not playing SRK’s wife or Suhana’s mom.
Director Siddharth Anand, who replaced Sujoy Ghosh at the helm, even took to X (formerly Twitter) to clarify the rumors with a curt “False.” His post came shortly after the Deepika-as-mother story began trending.
Yet, insiders say Deepika is still on board — likely in a stylish, surprise role that reunites her with Shah Rukh for the umpteenth time after Pathaan, Chennai Express, and Om Shanti Om.
A report had also floated the name of Punjabi star Sonam Bajwa, claiming she might join the film. The actress is already making waves with her upcoming Bollywood projects Housefull 5 and Baaghi 4, so her rumored casting in King stirred excitement.
But Siddharth Anand put that talk to rest too. On April 8, he tweeted once again: “Again, false.” Sources now confirm that Sonam Bajwa was never approached for King, despite the circulating gossip.
This casting update brings fans to a familiar crossroads — while many are thrilled about another SRK-Deepika reunion, some express concern about overkill, especially with Deepika appearing in multiple action-dramas and thrillers recently.
But let’s face it: the SRK-Deepika pairing has delivered hits, and with Suhana Khan joining the mix, King promises to be a fresh blend of legacy, debut, and high-octane storytelling.
