RYAN GOSLING is in negotiations to star in a new standalone Star Wars movie under Disney-owned Lucasfilm.
The project will be directed by Shawn Levy, known for his work on the 2024 Marvel hit Deadpool & Wolverine. Levy has been developing the film since 2022, according to Variety.
Jonathan Tropper, a frequent collaborator with Levy on films like “This Is Where I Leave You” and “The Adam Project”, is writing the script.
If finalised, Levy will also serve as a producer under his 21 Laps banner, alongside Star Wars veterans Kathleen Kennedy and Lucasfilm.
Details about the plot remain undisclosed, but the film will not be connected to the Skywalker Saga, which concluded in 2019 with “The Rise of Skywalker”. Instead, it is part of a series of standalone projects aimed at expanding the Star Wars universe.
Levy’s movie will follow “The Mandalorian & Grogu”, the first “Star Wars” film to get a greenlight in more than five years. Directed by Jon Favreau, the movie is scheduled to release on May 22, 2026, in the US.
Since 2019, Lucasfilm has focused on expanding the Star Wars franchise through series like “The Mandalorian”, “The Book of Boba Fett”, “Obi-Wan Kenobi”, “Andor”, and “Ahsoka”.
Additionally, movies from Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, James Mangold, and Dave Filoni are in the pipeline.
Gosling, who recently completed work on “Fall Guy”, is also attached to “Project Hail Mary”, an adaptation of Andy Weir’s bestselling novel, directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.
