MALAYALAM superstar Mohanlal, known for over 300 films in his career, stated he is open to acting in Hindi movies if offered roles by Bollywood filmmakers.
Speaking at the Hindi trailer launch of his directorial debut, “Barroz”, the actor said, “When somebody calls me for a role, I’ll definitely come and work. I don’t mind. I don’t have a choice. As actors, we don’t have a choice. Let it come. Let it happen.”
Mohanlal has previously appeared in Hindi films such as “Company” and “Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag”. However, many of his Malayalam hits, including “Manichitrathazhu” and “Drishyam”, were dubbed or remade in Hindi.
At the event, he addressed comparisons between his original roles and Akshay Kumar’s portrayals in Hindi remakes. “You cannot compare actors. This is totally different… I love his films. He’s a 100 per cent professional actor. I’m not that professional,” Mohanlal said.
“Barroz”, a 3D fantasy film adapted from Jijo Punnoose’s novel, revolves around a ghost safeguarding Vasco da Gama’s treasure for 400 years.
Mohanlal described its creation as serendipitous. “It just happened. This is something special. We call it ‘vismayam’ (an illusion). It was my ambition to do something special for my industry,” he said.
Akshay Kumar, the event’s chief guest, praised Mohanlal and expressed his enthusiasm for “Barroz”. “I am a huge fan of Mohanlal sir. I have seen many of his films with subtitles,” Akshay said, adding that he looks forward to watching the film with his daughter.
The film, produced by Antony Perumbavoor of Aashirwad Cinemas in collaboration with Pen Studios, features music by Lydian Nadhaswaran and Mark Kilian. It will release in 3D across five languages, including Hindi, on December 27.
