Kapoor family invites prime minister to honour Raj Kapoor’s legacy

BOLLYWOOD star Kareena Kapoor Khan expressed gratitude to prime minister Narendra Modi for inviting the Kapoor family to commemorate the legacy of their grandfather, legendary actor and filmmaker Raj Kapoor, as his 100th birth anniversary approaches.

Kareena shared the news on Instagram a day after the meeting, which took place in New Delhi on Tuesday.

“We are deeply humbled and honoured to have been invited by the Honourable Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, to commemorate the extraordinary life and legacy of our grandfather, the legendary Raj Kapoor,” Kareena wrote in her post, accompanied by pictures of the Kapoor family with the prime minister.

The meeting included family members such as Ranbir Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor, Riddhima Kapoor Sahni, Karisma Kapoor, and Rima Jain. According to a source, the family also invited the prime minister to the Raj Kapoor Film Festival, which will span 101 cinemas across 34 cities from December 13 to 15.

December 14, 2024, marks the centenary of Raj Kapoor, celebrated for classics like Awara, Shree 420, and Bobby. The festival, organised by PVR INOX Limited and the Film Heritage Foundation, is one of the most extensive retrospectives dedicated to his work.

Kareena, the younger daughter of Raj Kapoor’s eldest son Randhir Kapoor, highlighted the family’s pride in showcasing her grandfather’s films. “As we celebrate 100 glorious years of Dadaji’s artistry, vision, and contribution to Indian cinema, we honour the timeless impact of his legacy,” she added.

The family expressed hope that the prime minister would attend the festival, which they said is an effort to honour Raj Kapoor’s profound influence on Indian cinema.
