PAYAL KAPADIA’S “All We Imagine As Light” has been nominated for two categories at the 82nd Golden Globes: Best Motion Picture – Non-English Language and Best Direction.
This recognition comes after the film made history by becoming the first Indian movie to win the Grand Prix at Cannes earlier this year.
Kapadia’s film will compete in the Best Non-English Language Motion Picture category alongside entries such as France’s “Emilia Perez” and Italy’s “Vermiglio.” In the Best Director category, Kapadia is pitted against directors such as Brady Corbet (“The Brutalist”) and Sean Baker (“Anora”).
“I’m deeply honoured by this nomination and grateful to the HFPA for this recognition. This is a celebration of everyone who worked so passionately on the film. To everyone in India, ‘All We Imagine as Light’ is still in theatres—please go watch it and support us,” Kapadia said in a statement.
The film, starring Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha, and Chhaya Kadam, delves into love and friendship in Mumbai through the lives of three women. Released in India by Spirit Media in November, it continues to gain international acclaim.
While not selected as India’s official entry for the Oscars, the film is anticipated to secure nominations in general categories. It recently won Best International Film at the Gotham Awards and the New York Film Critics Circle.
The 2025 Golden Globes will take place on January 5 in Los Angeles and will stream in India on Lionsgate Play.
