ALLU ARJUN’S “Pushpa 2: The Rule” has set a new benchmark in Indian cinema, earning ₹1.75 billion (£16.20m) on its opening day, as reported by Sacnilk.

This record-breaking start has dethroned SS Rajamouli’s RRR, which previously held the title of the biggest opener with ₹1.33 billion (12.31m) on day one.

The film’s Telugu version led the earnings with ₹950 million, followed by the Hindi version at ₹670 million. Other regional versions, including Tamil (₹70 million), Malayalam (₹50 million), and Kannada (₹10 million), contributed to the overall success.

It also achieved an impressive 82.66 per cent occupancy in the Telugu-speaking regions, with night shows peaking at 90.19 per cent.

Directed by Sukumar and produced by Mythri Movie Makers and Muttamsetty Media, “Pushpa 2” continues the narrative of red sandalwood smuggling.

Allu Arjun reprises his role as Pushpa Raj, with Rashmika Mandanna as Srivalli and Fahadh Faasil as Bhanwar Singh Shekawat. Other key cast members include Jagapathi Babu, Dhananjaya, and Rao Ramesh.

Industry analysts suggest that with its current momentum, the film could cross ₹2.5 billion (£23.14m) by the weekend, making it one of the highest-grossing Indian films of all time.
