DANIEL CRAIG, the actor who played James Bond in five films, has given a straightforward and blunt response to speculation about his replacement.

When asked by Variety who he would like to see take over the role of the iconic British spy, Craig responded, “I don’t care.”

Craig, 56, had the longest continuous tenure as Bond, starting with “Casino Royale” in 2006 and retiring with “No Time to Die” in 2021.

Since his departure, numerous actors, including Idris Elba, Tom Hardy, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, have been rumoured to succeed him.

Taylor-Johnson, 34, has been a popular name in the discussion, especially after it was reported that Bond producer Barbara Broccoli was impressed by his screen test.

The British actor’s previous roles in “Kick-Ass”, “Bullet Train”, and “Nowhere Boy” have earned him support from former Bond actors such as Pierce Brosnan, George Lazenby, and James Pryce, who believe he could be a suitable successor.

Currently, Taylor-Johnson is promoting his new film “Queer”, directed by Luca Guadagnino. The film, which premiered at the Venice International Film Festival, has garnered attention for its explicit gay sex scenes.

Craig, who has been part of numerous films with intimate scenes, emphasized the importance of direction in making such moments realistic.

He noted, “You need a director who has a sensitivity, a director who understands — to put it crassly — how to make it real. That’s one’s job on the day: to make it as real as possible.”
