MUMBAI Police have summoned filmmaker Ekta Kapoor and her mother, Shobha Kapoor, to appear on October 24 in connection with a case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The case involves allegations of obscene portrayal of minor girls in an episode of the web series “Gandi Baat,” streamed on ALT Balaji, an official confirmed.

The police action follows a court order, which led to a case being filed last week against the Kapoors and Balaji Telefilms Limited. A notice was subsequently issued for their appearance, according to an official statement on Tuesday.

In response, ALT Digital Media Entertainment Ltd denied the allegations, stating, “Any references to the engagement of minors by the company are entirely incorrect.”

The company clarified that Shobha and Ekta Kapoor are “not involved” in daily operations, as separate teams handle content strategy.

The FIR includes charges under both the POCSO Act and the Information Technology Act. The allegations stem from a complaint filed by a Borivli resident, claiming inappropriate scenes involving minors were streamed between February and April 2021. The controversial episode is no longer available on the ALT Balaji platform, the official added.

In their statement, the company emphasised their compliance with legal requirements, saying, “ALT Digital Media Entertainment Ltd is fully compliant with all applicable laws including the POCSO Act.”

The company also expressed trust in the judiciary and assured cooperation in the investigation, while refraining from further comments due to the sub-judice nature of the case.
