BOLLYWOOD star Kareena Kapoor Khan expressed her interest in standing in the same frame as Meryl Streep and exploring Korean dramas, despite not actively pursuing a Hollywood career.

Speaking at the NDTV World Summit 2024 – The India Century, Kareena Kapoor said, “Language is not a barrier today. I have never really pursued any dreams to go to Hollywood. It has never been on my agenda. But never say never.”

Kareena acknowledged the global recognition of Indian films and emphasized their cultural authenticity.

Referring to her last release, “The Buckingham Murders,” which was shot in the UK, she said, “Our films are true to our culture and heritage. They are authentic. We love our song and dance, drama, action, and our films are enjoyed in our languages. That’s also what sets us apart.”

The actor also praised her “Crew” co-star Diljit Dosanjh for his contribution to Indian cinema’s global recognition and urged viewers to watch more Indian films in their original languages. “Diljit is true to his roots… Our language is very easy to understand. You would understand our films so much more via OTT which have subtitles,” she said.

Beyond films, Kapoor Khan discussed the rising global influence of Indian fashion, crediting designers like Amit Aggarwal and Manish Malhotra for promoting Indian artisanship. She mentioned that Indian fashion, including sarees and lehengas, is gaining attention internationally, from Cannes to IIFA.

The actor also spoke about her film “Crew,” a women-led heist comedy, which has crossed ₹ 1 billion (£9.17m) at the box office.

“There’s nothing really that women can’t do. It was believed that only heroes can do heist films. In ‘Crew’, we showed we can do it too.”

Kareena wrapped up her session by offering advice to young girls, emphasizing the importance of setting boundaries: “No means no. No is an answer that should always be something that should be reassuring rather than making you feel underconfident.”

She also announced that her film “The Buckingham Murders” will start streaming on Netflix from November 8.
