ACTORS Akshay Kumar, R Madhavan, and Ananya Panday will star in a film centered on the life of lawyer C Sankaran Nair, who fought against the British Empire in the 1920s.

The film is based on the book “The Case That Shook the Empire” by Raghu Palat and Pushpa Palat. Scheduled for release in theatres on March 14, 2025, the untitled project is produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions in collaboration with Kumar’s Cape of Good Films and Leo Media Collective.

Karan Singh Tyagi will make his directorial debut with this film.

Dharma Productions announced on social media, “An unknown story, an unheard truth. Starring Akshay Kumar, R. Madhavan & Ananya Panday – this untitled film is releasing in cinemas on 14th March, 2025. Directed by Karan Singh Tyagi.”

The film focuses on the “shocking cover-up of a massacre that pushed India’s top barrister C Sankaran Nair to fight an unprecedented battle against the British Empire.”

The book “The Case That Shook the Empire,” published by Bloomsbury India in 2019, delves into the 1924 defamation trial involving Michael O’Dwyer, the former Lieutenant Governor of Punjab, who sued Nair.

Nair’s criticism of British actions in Punjab led to a widely reported trial that revealed the harsh realities of British rule in India.
