PAKISTANI actor Fawad Khan is set to make his return to Hindi cinema after eight years with the romantic comedy “Abir Gulaal”, where he stars opposite Bollywood actress Vaani Kapoor.

The film, directed by Aarti S Bagdi, began filming in London on September 29, the producers announced on Monday. This international project features a cast from both India and the UK.

The movie marks Fawad’s return to the Indian film industry after his role in “Ae Dil Hai Mushkil” (2016), directed by Karan Johar.

He initially gained popularity in India through Pakistani television serials like “Zindagi Gulzar Hai” and “Humsafar”. In Bollywood, he has also appeared in “Khoobsurat” and “Kapoor & Sons”.

The film’s producers, Vivek B Agrawal, Avantika Hari, and Rakesh Sippy, released the first-look images of the lead actors.

“Fawad has a massive global fan base, and we anticipate that audiences and his fans will wholeheartedly embrace this film, as it showcases him in his most endearing role yet. The chemistry between Fawad and Vaani is expected to light up the screen with their captivating performances and undeniable charm,” they said in a joint statement.

The plot of “Abir Gulaal” revolves around two individuals who inadvertently help each other heal, with love developing unexpectedly, according to director Bagdi. The shoot is scheduled to continue through October and November in the UK.

Fawad’s fans in India last saw him in the Pakistani web series “Barzakh”. His recent film “The Legend of Maula Jatt” faced delays in Punjab just days before the release of the “Abir Gulaal” announcement.

Fawad’s involvement in “Ae Dil Hai Mushkil” faced protests in 2016 due to political tensions between India and Pakistan, though the film eventually released.
