HORROR comedy Stree 2 continues its dream run on the box office and is poised to join the ₹6 billion (£54.22 million) club.
This Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao-starrer was made on a modest budget of ₹600 million (£5.43m), and has given big-ticket films like “Jawan”, “Animal” and June 2024’s “Kalki” 2898 AD a run for their money.
Over five weeks after its release, the movie’s total India box office collection currently stands at ₹5.86 billion (£52.95m).
It has now surpassed the lifetime India box office collection of Jawan’s Hindi version is ₹5.83 billion (£52.68m).
At the worldwide box office, Stree 2 has raked in a total of ₹8.26 billion (£74.64m).
Directed by Amar Kaushik and written by Niren Bhatt, Stree 2 is the sequel to the 2018 blockbuster horror comedy Stree.
The film focuses on ladies tailor Vicky and his group of friends including a mysterious girl who fight against all odds to free the town of Chanderi from Sarkata’s horror.
The film also features Pankaj Tripathi, Aparshakti Khurana, and Abhishek Banerjee in significant roles.
The film released in theatres on Independence Day this year along with Akshay Kumar’s “Khel Khel Mein” and John Abraham and Sharvari Wagh-starrer “Vedaa”.
Commenting on the movie’s success, Kaushik said, “We were confident that the film was good, but we didn’t expect that it would get these big numbers.”
