ISMAEL CRUZ CORDOVA, known for his role in “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power,” shared his experience working with Priyanka Chopra Jonas on the upcoming action drama “The Bluff.”
Cordova described Chopra Jonas as “India’s very own, beloved national treasure,” and praised her leadership and dedication on set. “She does all of her stunts, not scared to get dirty,” Cordova stated in an interview with PTI, emphasizing her commitment to the role of a female pirate in the film.
Cordova, who has also appeared in shows like “Sesame Street” and “Ray Donovan,” expressed his admiration for Chopra Jonas, saying, “She’s a superstar in every sense of the word. Gentle, charismatic, and a great leader.”
He highlighted how her presence set a positive tone on set, making everyone feel safe. “I just felt so honoured to be with her. I love her work. So it’s very special. I’m grateful,” he added.
Beyond his work on “The Bluff,” Cordova is also looking forward to the second season of “The Rings of Power,” where he plays Arondir, an elf in the Prime Video series based on JRR Tolkien’s work. The season is set to premiere on Thursday.
When asked about the online trolling he faced after his appearance in the first season, Cordova, one of the first people of color to portray an elf in the Tolkien universe, responded by calling out racism as illogical.
He stated, “My stance is that I have the right to exist as wholesomely and as fully and as brilliantly as anybody else. That’s the most radical thing that I can do.”
Cordova also addressed the broader issue of harassment faced by public figures, echoing sentiments shared by other artists like American singer-songwriter Chappell Roan. He emphasized that there is “nothing in my job description that tells you that we have to put up with any of this.”
Despite the negativity, Cordova expressed gratitude for the love and support from fans of the Tolkien universe, saying, “It’s kind of fabulous that despite that kind of energy being directed towards us, we are still thriving and receiving so much love.”
His co-star Tyroe Muhafidin also spoke on the casting process for “The Rings of Power,” noting that they were chosen for their abilities as actors, not their appearance.
“It shouldn’t be a factor in anything because we are all just people,” Muhafidin stated.
