THE league phase of the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) came to a conclusion on Sunday (19) and the positions of the top four teams were confirmed at the end of the fixtures. The final day had a double-header one of which was washed out by rain, affecting the final rankings.
In the first match of the day held at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, home team Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Punjab Kings by four wickets by chasing a target of 215 with four balls to spare.
The second match featured table toppers Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals, who were pushed to the third position by Hyderabad on their win. Rajasthan needed to win their final game against Kolkata but the abandoned game at Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati in the north-eastern state of Assam meant their mission remained unfulfilled and they finished as the third team despite having equal number of points (17) with Hyderabad, thanks to an inferior net run rate (+0.273 to +0.414).
