AN Indian judge has found himself in a spot after he allegedly asked a gang-rape survivor to take off her clothes in court to show him her injuries.
According to a report by Bar and Bench, the police in the north-western state of Rajasthan lodged a first information report (FIR) against the judicial magistrate over his alleged conduct against the girl who is a Dalit, a community whose status is considered to be the lowest in India’s traditional Hindu social structure.
The judge, Ravindra Kumar, in Rajasthan’s Hindaun city was booked under Section 345 (wrongful confinement) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant provisions of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.
As per the FIR, the incident took place last Saturday (March 30) when the survivor went to record her statement. She alleged that the magistrate asked her to get rid of her clothes to inspect her injury marks. She then told him that she could do it only in front of women judges, it added.
