Former India cricketer calls Ram Mandir consecration ‘India’s greatest moment…’

The 54-year-old, who got an invitation to attend the inauguration which will be done by PM Narendra Modi, said it was his hope and desire that Ram Mandir happened in his lifetime

FORMER India pace bowler Venkatesh Prasad is not known for mincing words and he has now expressed a clear opinion on the upcoming consecration ceremony at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh on January 22.

The 54-year-old former cricketer, who got an invitation to attend the inauguration which will be done by prime minister Narendra Modi, on Tuesday (2) took to X and said it was his hope and desire that Ram Mandir happened in his lifetime and called the eventual consecration “India’s greatest moment” in his lifetime.

He also thanked the organisers for inviting him.

“It was a hope and a desire, that in my lifetime Ram Mandir consecration happens. And what a moment, not only is the consecration happening on 22nd January, but have the great fortune and blessings to be able to attend India’s greatest moment in my lifetime. Thank you for the invitation. Jai Shree Ram,” Prasad, who took 292 international wickets for India in Tests and one-day internationals between 1994 and 2001, said.

Prasad hails from Bengaluru in the southern state of Karnataka.

On Sunday (31), Prasad conducted a Q&A session on his X profile and when one fan asked him about a prediction for 2024, he made a reference to the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh.

When latter asked what he thinks will happen in 2024, the former wrote — “Mandir wahin banne waala hai” (The temple is going to be made there). It was a reference to the consecration ceremony.

 

Prominent cricketers, film personalities, industrialists and seers from over India are likely to attend the ceremony.

According to Asian News International, the ritual process will continue on a large scale for seven days in Ayodhya ahead of the consecration ceremony, starting January 16.
