Modi to inaugurate BAPS Hindu temple in Abu Dhabi on February 14

The PM accepted an invitation for the occasion from a high-profile delegation from BAPS at his official residence in New Delhi this week.

INDIAN prime minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate a Hindu temple in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates in February, the BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha has confirmed.

According to a release from the Sanstha, Pujya Swami Ishwarcharandas and Swami Brahmaviharidas invited Modi along with the board of directors at his official residence in New Delhi for the occasion scheduled for February 14.

“Delighted by this gesture, Prime Minister Modi graciously accepted the invitation, expressing his enthusiastic support for the historic and iconic temple. Pujya Swami Ishwarcharandas traditionally honored the Prime Minister by adorning him with a garland and draping a saffron shawl over his shoulders, acknowledging his significant contributions to our nation and the world. The prime minister was specially commended for the remarkable renovation and development of pilgrimage sites across India, a feat unparalleled in recent centuries,” the release from the Sanstha on Wednesday (27) said.

Modi’s talks with the representatives of the BAPS organisation went on for almost an hour during which they spoke about the new temple’s significance for global harmony and the Indian prime minister’s vision for India’s spiritual leadership globally. The delegation praised Modi over his global achievements, particularly strengthening ties with the UAE and other Middle Eastern nations.

The invitation to Modi featured an address from HH Mahant Swami Maharaj saying: “Pramukh Swami na Priya Putra Modi Saheb”, translating to, “The most beloved son of Pramukh Swami, Modiji”.

The prime minister recalled on the occasion his personal memories of Pramukh Swami Maharaj, the late president of BAPS, and enquired about the health of the current president, Mahant Swami Maharaj. He also praised the efforts made by key individuals, volunteers and supporters, involved in the BAPS Hindu temple project in Abu Dhabi

In January, Modi will inaugurate the Ram temple in Ayodhya in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

Indian opposition parliamentarian Shashi Tharoor took a dig at Modi in a post on X saying Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party will revert to its “core message and offer Narendra Modi to the nation as a Hindu Hriday Samrat.”

The Indian National Congress leader said the general elections in India in 2024 were “shaping up to be Hindutva versus popular welfare.”
